Monday Jan 25 1915
To day is the day of the great Inspection
we were got out of Bed at 5-30 & after
washing & shaving we had breakfast at 7 o-clock
& fell in for Parade at 7-45 on the Parade
ground where we had drill for about one
hour after which we marched to the other side of
Maymyo is a very large field which is called the
polo field. Here we were met by the 5th Gurhas
& the Mountain Battery we were all drawn up
into line when the Bugle went to announce the
arrival of Sir John Kison who is the Commander
of the Southern army in India we had to go
through a corse of Battalion Drill & then the
2 best company’s were picked out to give an
exibition in Bayonet Fighting the company
were A & C. A company had to do a charge
with Bamboo poles & afterwards C had to
do a charge at Dummy Figures with Fixed
bayonets. It was a charge which would have
turned the Gordon Highlanders green with
Envy but unfortunately we ran at too great
