January 1st 1915

To day is the day of the great event what is

called in India The Four-De-Joie which

means in English The Fire of Joy. If possible

I will try to describe it. There are five

Regiments, on the left The Mountain Battery

then the 4th Border then the Burma Volunteers

then the Gurkas & Then the Bengal Lancers.

The Mountain Battery fire 7 shots with

cannon & then the Border commence at one

end firing blank this is carried on by the

other Regiments after each Volley the

National Anthem is played & the Effect is

very impressive.

To Day I received the Glorious news that

I had to go into Hospital but we very

pleased with it.  Everything was spotless

clean & smart but the best of all is you

have each a good spring mattress to sleep
