drop of Tea or something Hot as it was
very cold so I used a little more of
my French Lingo and went into a shop
as they were open Expecting to do some
business with us as we were all resting
in the Village square and the Villagers
were all lashing out of the Door as
our Brass Bans woke them all up so
I got a couple of Pair of socks out of
my Valise and had a walk round to
try and sell them to get a cup of
coffee so I went into a shop where
they were busy making coffee to serve
the chap who had got money so I ask
for 3 coffees and some Bread and
butter and it came up all right
so when she came for the money I
gave her the socks she said Trey
Bon Masuer so we were lucky again
as after waiting in the square for
about 4 Hours while the officers were
finding Billets for us we were
Eventually put in an old castle
in Ruins about 40 of us and we were
handed our food here to cook the
best way we could a tin of tea and
Sugar 6 Biscuits and a tin of Bully
and here we had our First Pay Day
in France the Paid us 5 Francs
Each so we were in clover and able
to buy a Loaf of Bread and some Eggs
a change to Bully so we had our first
good meal in France only a scramble
to cook it breaking the Wood away
