We eventually arrived back in St Albans back to our old Billits properly getting fed up now ans Longing for the time now to go to France well we were now getting ready to go now I went back this time to a different Part of St Albans we were Billited in a Big Shop about 4 Beds in a room which was much better as we could sit up half the night Playing cards and as we had to cook our own food here we found it rather convenient as we find a Hook in the ceiling over the gas and used to hang a Dixie of Water on this and woke up in the morning and found our tea Water already Boiling then one of us used to stand up on a chair and cook all the Bacon over the gas for the seven of us so we managed to line rather comfortable have we had a final inspection in Batchwood Park when we were told by the General that we were really going to France and there was nothing to worry about as we would find only a Beaten Enemy and we would find it quite a simple thing to go over the top and take as much Ground as we liked and also said the People of St Albans had nothing but Praise and all the Swank Imaginable So we were served out with French Boots under clothing etc and Sneaked out of St Albans in the Dead of Night so as nobody would no we had gone no Goodbye to Sweethearts Wives or Mothers just in the dead of night we entrained to Southampton
