and which I received yesterday. I was glad

to receive it and hear that you are all well

at home. About the Xmas and New Year well

I spent those at sea about three thousand miles

from Sydney. In fact I hardly thought it

was Xmas time at all. I was surprised to

hear about the fellows from McBirneys enlisting,

but I suppose they got the same notion as myself

and wouldn't be satisfied without going away.

I don't think it much for a young fellow to do

especially as a person has only to die once and it

does not make much difference where that occurs.

Dear Mother I don't think I have much more

to write about at present, except, that we went to

Mass at the Church in Heliopolis today. The

service was conducted by several priests and a

Bishop. The Bishop wore a beard and long

black hair down his back, also the Mass was

not read in Latin but in some other language.

I forgot to inquire what order they belonged to

or what was the language.

Hoping to hear from you soon I will now

conclude with best love to all

                                                               Good-bye

                                                                          from your loving Son
