June 11th. Made gun pits Lecture on Resperation. Quiet.

12th. Gun Drill. Artillery on all night.

13th. Church Parade. Heavy Guns still going strong. Shake the

whole neighbourhood. Noon, "Stand to".

14th REinforcements from Canterbury. Men left behind withou

guns, Horses sent out over to Givenchy. Heavy bomb

-ardment Still going on, all Ross Rifles exchanged for

missingmissing, Rifles taken up to trenches  + exchanged. Ros

missing

15th Village where billeted shelled, 4 horses killed 6 men

hurt, 1 very badly, now at La Priclle, at cross roads

artillery out exercising Horses, shell dropped amongst

them killing + wounding many men + Horses. Heavy

bombardment all Night. Now at Givenchy close to Sugar

Refinery + Distillery, Change at 5:00

16th Machine Gun close to Railway Bridge. One continual

stream of Wounded. Some wounded in the Head carrying

those wounded in Segs + Dc. Artillery going all night.

Moved up to 2nd trench later. No action, returned thru

Givenchy village under heavy fire + snipers.

17th Special reserve trench along Railway Track. Narrow escape

of two men passing a house. Return to Beuvry along Canal

camp in field close to Armour Train. Woman in house,

is daughter of old woman in D"sketch" page 11 Oct 7th 1914.

Returned to keeping Ginger-Bread. Stop in Boulog
