for new pair, got turned down by Segt Major. Saying They wil
last you till you are dead! Shell falling close by weather
20th Weather fine + quiet
21st Squadron digging trenches between the live lines snipers ve
busy 5 wounded. Spy caught
in trench officers
uniform at Bethume.
22nd Still in reserve trench French artillery very active in Arra
23rd Moved to first line of trenches. Sniping on our night. very
close + active. Im laying waits for him on Cuivchy front
24th Coal boxes all around, early morning Mined enemies
went up 11.a.c. lots of damage. left trech 8.00PM. relieve
by Grenedere Guards. Horses +
in Canal with a
our 'kit', pole broke, very cold. arrive at Bethume 3.30Am
dead tired.
25th Very wet. Still resting. Good bars 3d @ time.
26th enemy fireing on Observation Baloon. No damage done
after shelling for 4 hours. Still at Bethume. expect to
off tonight. (later) move off 9.30PM
