May 4th 1910 Left Folkstone to France

6th Arrived at Stragale Station Billited Merris near

Hospital First sound of Guns. within 15 miles of trenches.

8th Route marching

14th Left merris marched 12 miles with Packs to St Florice

15th Left St FLorice for La Eclerre?

16th Good news British Cook 3 lines of German trenches Left lo 'Ecle

Received issue of missing + cigarettes. Billided in a Barn

17th Slept in an orchard Got wet through

18th Still Raining

19th Change Billett 1 mile away in a Garden

20th Hear Bombardment

21st Ordered to "Stand to" Hear of an attack on La Barres

24th Arrive at Fertubert Occupy reserve trenches at 2.00Am

25th Saw COldstream Guards splended charge up a hill

great sight. We move up to the front line of trenches R.C.L

A Squad. Charge + take part trench. German holding out o

flank for a few minutes then I sweept of the "Boy" clean

them all out. built paropet of dead German Bodies awful

sight.

26th Very hot 28 Snipers taken 1 fort + machine gun taken

"Starsh" leave trench 1200 midnight arrive Locon 4Am
