Thursday afternoon
My dear Lassie,
I have just come in from football - for the
second time today - in which I have done valiant (?)
deeds, + am feeling correspondingly hot + jiggered.
I wonder where you are just now! In York most
likely. Well, what do you think is the latest
[ ] !!! I duly got back on Tuesday night
to find, as I expected, that the battalion was isolated
+ that we were not allowed to leave our lines ie we
could get as far as the top of the road. Well - we
paraded as usual on Wednesday morning
+ when on physical jerka about 10 am, up came
the Quartermaster - "Anyone from Hut 24 here? Get
back to the Hut - you're isolated again!" It appears
Ted Bawtree's illness has turned out to be Scarlet Fever!
our isolation will probably last 14 days! It's positively
sickening. I don't know whatever you'll do with yourself
if it does, my poor lass. However insufferable we can
