do is to stick it as cheerfully as possible. This time,
we can go down to the Football field in charge of Potter,
but otherwise we are not allowed outside the hut at all
except ...illegibleI am sending you an extract
from "Freckles" which I think expresses a very true sentiment
+ which I liked. If you substitute yourself for the
"Swamp Angel" + York + district for the Lumberlost - you
will understand why I think so much about the old
place. Bless your heart in some places especially,
(eg the Museum or Bishopthorpe + Dringhouses) every stone
reminds me of you + happy days we have spent
together. Mr Harrowell called at the Hut yesterday
morning, + I got the Declaration signed. He had
motored over, + was in Red Cross uniform. He says he
had an awful night on the occasion of the Zepp
raid. I don't know how this letter will reach you
as of course the Y.M.C.A. is closed + noone can go into
Ripon. I expect we shall get them all sent to the
Field Post Office somehow I was glad you managed
to get a message down last night + also Evelyn's letter
I don't know who the messenger was, but he looks a bigger
twister than McArcolt. Well, look after yourself +
let me have all the news. I will let you know if I
require anything. With all my love,
Your Stanley
...Written vertically in the left margin
P.S. Will you call for your badge at wills +
also send me an envelope or two - just one
or two will do.
