last night from 10.30 pm to 1 am. - "A" squadron
in the trenches + "B" squadron attacking. I
was in the first "wave" (wire cutters) + we
had some time. We advanced in rushes between
the firing of their star shells, cut through
the wire entanglements + trip wires + got
our squadron through. When we got into their
trenches, however, it developed into a free fight
in the dark. We used fists etc + above all
"puff bombs" They are like roman candles,
+, as the instructions say "give a blinding flash
+ a terrible report." However, I can tell you better
all these things when I see you, love you - may
it be soon. You are getting on splendidly, my
lass. - take care not to strain yourself won't

tell her if it was only £1 worth of chocolate
instead of books - well..... Well, lassie
o'mine , I've just got time for the 5.5 post, so
cheer up - I'll soon have you in my arms again
Love you! Remember me to all. Your own, Husband
