recited ruthless rhymes on everyone in the Bn from C.O. downward

(I'm coming ai!) I'll gwi you some examples.

Oh! Graham he's our Dr. fine

He doles out beaucoup No. 9

Whether you're well or whether you're ill

You'll always get that same damn'd pill.

(N.B. No. 9 pill is a standing joke in the Army. It is composed

mostly of calomel!)

Again a parody on "Gilbert the Filbert"

I'm Collyer the Sergeant, the  Hermanille knut,

The pride of Rue de Tilloy, bully of the lot,

Oh! Hades, the man seller that  leave  estannets,

For Collyer of B Coy. best of the lot.

To-day we marched to another village further away from guns &

danger, & we are in for a low time. We are settling down

in a French farm home & I have been "parlering" pere & making

friends all round & they are going to give us French coffee &

coal & generally anything we want. Oh it's a great life!

I have had ripping letters from ever so many people. I never knew

I had so many friends, & of course regular & most touching letters

from M.A. who is now quite fit again & walking 10 miles per day

& working hard with the lambs on the farm. So don't you
