My dearest Mother,
Please thank Nora for her interesting
type-written letter. As you may have guessed from
reading the papers, I have been pretty busy lately
& had little time or inclination for writing letters.
We are out now & after a rest & a wash am
feeling very fit & happy & content. I was very
lucky & had a comparatively easy time, but it has
been very exciting & a great experience. I came
out quite unhurt & have quite recovered from the
stress & strain. C. Slater too, I hear, is all right.
I slept one night in a German dugout & it
was quite fun going over the vast quantities of
stuff they had left & tasting black bread etc.
I could have got any amount of souvenirs I
wanted of any kind whatsoever, but one does not
feel in the mood to collect them. I am enclosing a
little pamphlet prayer which is interesting & pathetic.
Tell Nora that my heart is light once again because
the night after the attack I received a large box of
shortbread & a charming letter from M.A. from which I
