last Wensday 12th it was like
hell opon hearth Well my
Dear the nesct time you
send a parcle will you send
a tin of health salts as my
blood is out of order I scratch
myself to pices [SIC] + a bit of Twist
tobaco the pipes came in nice
well my love remember me
to all at home + tell them
I am as well as can be escpected
I am answering this by return
as I have not allways got the
chance so will draw to a close
with the best of luck I remain

I suspect “fiscing” is another example of Robert substituting “sc” in place of an “x”. I’ve found it common throughout his letters. He also does this twice more in this item with “nesct” and “escpected”.
