OFFICER'S TRIBUTE TO DEAD

PRESTON SOLDIER

Lance-Corpl. Harry Burrel (29), L.N.L. Regt. 6, Chaddock-street,Preston, was killed in action in France on April 20th. An officer of the platoon, writing to deceased's widow, says: "He was one of the most promising men in the platoon. He attempted to do the bravest deed I have yet seen. Fortunately, he did not suffer, his death being instantaneous. He died trying to help another. Neither the officers nor the men will forget his sacrifice."

He enlisted in September, 1914, but did not leave for the front until February last. Prior to joining the Army he was employed by F. Matthew, Fishergate, Preston.
