I’m assuming “Escmas” is an alternative to “X-Mas” and means to say it is nearing Christmas. Maybe there are other examples in his letters where he substitutes the “ex” sound similarly.
I have found another example in Item 23 where he writes “esccuse” instead of “excuse”. I’m sure there are others.
