No. 2 in E.E.L.&M. 928/30

Federated Malay States Government,

Public Works Department.

Taiping. 19th November, 1930.

Lieutenant Colonel Commanding

5th Regiment Canadian Artillery

British Columbia, Victoria

Sir,

Some years ago - immediately after the war, about September 1918 - I received a Memorandum from Lt. Col. Angus Commanding the Fifth Regiment Canadian Artillery stating that he was in receipt of my Commission Certificate and to advise him of its disposition. I served in Blackrock under Captain Sargis from January 15th to May 16th when I left for Petewaya Camp with the 15th Brigade Canadian Field Artillery en route for France.

Although I replied to the above mentioned Memorandum, I never received my Commission, and as the Federated Malay States Government now ask for this, I would esteem it, if not, a true copy) would be sent to me at your earliest convenience. I regret I cannot give you many references at this late date, but Captains Gillespie and Brown of Victoria and Mr. Woodward of Vancouver all served with me in France with the Canadian Field Artillery and if they are still in British Columbia will remember me.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your obedient servant,

 signed

(J.B. MACLACHLAN)
