Mon grand-père Jean Gaubicher

Mon grand-père, Jean Gaubicher, menuisier charron (boiserie et ferronnerie) d'origine bretonne (Uzel - Côtes d'Armor) a été mobilisé dès 1914 à l'âge de 28 ans quelques jours après la naissance de son fils, Maurice. Il est affecté au 31ème régiment d'infanterie coloniale de réserve. Sa compagnie qui défendait Maubeuge, a été cernée par les troupes allemandes. Mon grand-père avec certains de ses compagnons a été fait prisonnier, ceci dès les premiers jours de la guerre. En tant que prisonnier de guerre à Münster, il a été contraint de travailler dans les mines de charbon Hagenberch et Borbeck (Westphalie - Allemagne). Ma grand-mère qui travaillait dans une fonderie, lui envoyait fréquemment des colis de ravitaillement car la nourriture était rare. Cependant, les colis qui lui parvenaient étaient souvent pillés au passage.

My grandfather, Jean Gaubicher, carpenter (woodwork and ironwork) of Breton origin
(Uzel - Côtes d'Armor) was mobilized as early as 1914 at the age of 28 a few days after the birth of his son, Maurice. He is assigned to the 31st Colonial Reserve Infantry Regiment. 
His company defending Maubeuge was surrounded by German troops. My grandfather and some of his companions were taken prisoner from the first days of the war. 
As a prisoner of war in Münster, he was forced to work in the coal mines Hagenberch and Borbeck (Westphalia - Germany). My grandmother, who worked in a foundry, frequently sent her food parcels because food was scarce. However, the parcels that reached him were often looted in passing.
