But on our way home it nearly

froze my feet. It was a pretty

sight this afternoon seeing the

balloons going up one by one

as soon as the sky cleared up.

The Englishmen took  turns . To-day

I was so hungry again. Now I am

going to bed otherwise I eat all

my bread and have nothing

to eat to-morrow.

4.4.17 Fruh Bedrekt. Nachwittags Schon

That was a bad start for a morning.

I was making fire. Cut wood

with my knife. When I had finished,

I wanted to cut a piece of

bread and eat not find my

knife. I thought and thought

and at least I find out

that I put it in the fire. That's

a shame. The knife went to

war with me and I miss

it already. The bad day continued.

I spilled my coffee

on the floor. It was coffee

 Right page

left from last night, this morning

I just came in time

to not get any. Perhaps I

was in bad humour because

I had such a nasty dream,

or was it because the rats

disturbed me all night and

woke me up 1/2 doz. of times.

The  they  done one thing which I

never thought possible. Went

on the shelf and started to

eat the bread. If the bread

would not have fallen down,

I would never have noticed it.

So I could chase her away.

I am certainly hungry as

ever. To-day I received the

answer from Pvt. Pallermann

but it was not that I expected.

Our chief came back.

There was big shouting an our right.

and suddenly also in our sector.

Today was altogether different.
