The Little Back Parlour

There were crazy patchwork cushions on
the shining Windsor chairs,
And a clock that ticked sedately in a
corner by the stairs;
While on the hob a kettle, all the year
round, used to sing,
In that little, old back parlour where a cat
you could'nt swing
                         ----------------------------------
Brass candlesticks and snuffers bright as
gold with elbow grease,
With a shepherd and shepherdess stood
upon the mantlepiece;
And on the window-sill, behind a curtain
White as snow,
In summer, red geraniums stood neatly in
a row.
                         ----------------------------------
And,  though oceans roll between us, very
often in a dream,
I can see those patchwork cushions and candlesticks that gleam,
Hear the clock tick in the corner and the
kettle sing for tea,
In that little, old back parlour that is
"Home Sweet Home" to me
