 At foot of left hand diary page is printed information about the printed illustration of the submarine periscope at foot of the opposite diary page. 

[SUBMARINE PERISCOPE. As a submarine's work is dine below the sea level, it is necessary that it should have an "eye" above water to enable it to see the enemy and creep up to him without being seen. For this purpose it is provided with a periscope consisteing of a telescopic tube which projects above, and can be lengthened, shortened, or tured round at will. As you will see from the sketch, the actual position of the enemy ship is thrown on to a sheet.]

Just my luck, arrived 8.30 P.M.

Back to this hole again. After coming back from a place like Trepied its enough to make a chap wild. More route marches and other rot I suppose. No idea what we've come back for.

 At the foot of the right hand diary page is the printed illustration of the periscope referred to in the printed information at the foot of the left hand page.
