[OUR GLORIOUS FLAG. The composition of this flag represents the union of England, Scotland and Ireland. In the Tudor period, the favourite banner was that of St. George. When James I. ascended to the throne, he added to it the cross of St. Andrew. In 1801, when Gret Britain and Ireland united, St Patrick's cross was also included, thus completing the Union Jack.]
