Dear Pat
I Rec your very welcome letter
and am very glad to hear all at home are
well. I am at the base for a couple of days
and then I shall as you say go to taste the
comforts of the dug-outs. it is a rotten time
to have to go up, the Winter, but I suppose
we will get hardened to it if we live long enough
which I hope to do as I expect to be home
for Christmas as I believe it will be finished
by then I believe the Germans are about
done and they know it. That chap
that travelled to Kingstown with me I
lost him when we got off the train and
did not see him after he must have travell-
ed 1st class as I looked for him on board
