offer myself again for enlistment, but
the following lines will show that they
thought wrong. The last week in August
several of my fellow employees out of
the same Office had volunteered and
been accepted. Now that upset me
altogether especially when they came
down to the Office in Khaki. Anyhow
on Saturday Sept 4th I was walking
through Albert Square about lunch
time on my way home, having finished
for the day. I was just nearing the
Town Hall (Mount St Corner) when I was
accosted by one of the Boys in Khaki.
He asked me if I was thinking of joining
up, and I replied in the affirmative
but I did'nt think they'd take me
as I'd been refused three or four times.
I told him when + where and all the facts,
whereupon he proceeded to inform me
that things are different now, they're
not so particular, they'll take anything,
and invited me to step inside. But
I remained furus +I wasn't having anyjust then, I told him I'd think about
it over the week-end and see what
Monday brought.
