offer myself again for enlistment, but

the following lines will show that they

thought wrong. The last week in August

several of my fellow employees out of

the same Office had volunteered and

been accepted. Now that upset me

altogether especially when they came

down to the Office in Khaki. Anyhow

on Saturday Sept 4th I was walking

through Albert Square about lunch

time on my way home, having finished

for the day. I was just nearing the

Town Hall (Mount St Corner) when I was

accosted by one of the Boys in Khaki.

He asked me if I was thinking of joining

up, and I replied in the affirmative

but I did'nt think they'd take me

as I'd been refused three or four times.

I told him when + where and all the facts,

whereupon he proceeded to inform me

that things are different now, they're

not so particular, they'll take anything,

and invited me to step inside. But

I remained furus + I wasn't having any

just then, I told him I'd think about

it over the week-end and see what

Monday brought.
