Well Monday brought a lot of things

besides the Landlord. I had pondered

over it all the week-end, in fact I

had a drink or two on it, and I think

I let drop at home a few hints, as to

my thoughts. Anyhow on Monday Sept

6th 1915 I arose from my bed with

a firm purpose. I had finally

decided overnight to have another

try in the morning. I shall never

forget that morning it was a beautiful

September Morning, and the Sun was

shining gloriously as I stepped out

of the my Bivouac (I beg your pardon

I mean my Domiciliary Edifice 25 Newton

St Huline...There is a 25 Newton St in Manchester and that represents a possible interpretation of the letters, but I am not confident of its accuracy. Huline seems to have been a township, but in a quick search I did not find a reliable reference regarding its borders.) I was absolutely in the

pink, and was dressed for town, let

me see. I was wearing a steel grey

serge lounge suit, with soft stiff

collar & the necessary tie, light grey

soft Hat with black band, & black

boots. I had had the usual scrape

+ wash, had partal breakfasted fairly

good, so I felt at peace with the world.

  1. I’ve had trouble reading the letter-writer’s address. My best interpretation is “25 Newton St Huline.” Quick Google searches have turned up several references from the late 19th and early 20th centuries that suggest that Huline is a township associated with Manchester, or perhaps an area within Manchester. Does anyone know more about Huline, or have a reliable reference to its borders to determine if 25 Newton St. (now in the North Quarter) would have been a part of it?
