Description
Mary Maria Squire was a nurse at Berrington Hospital in Shrewsbury during the First World War. She kept an Autograph book which contains poems, pictures, short paragraphs as well as autographs of many of the patients who were in the hospital, men from various regiments serving in the war. She also had a long photograph showing staff and patients at the hospital in June 1917 including herself. There are also other photographs relating to the hospital - patients and staff. She met her future husband, Wilfred Ashworth, who was a patient at the hospital and they married in 1920.
