Artillery shell trenches & Frelingham
all afternoon. Stood to arms @ 8 pm.
April 21 rose 12 mid. duty till 2 am.
sleep till 3.30 am. breakfast @ 4.30 am.
Section dig piece work. dinner 12 am.
Artillery again shell village &
trenches. Lots of strange officers
in trench. Aeroplanes up all day.
Letter to Parents, Ernie, P. C.
to Jennie. Received a letter from
parents. letter from Jennie. Parcel
from Jennie. S to A 8 pm.
April 22. Rose @ 2 am duty till 3.30
Worked @ cover in communication
trench, for 1 hour, Breakfast
@ 5 am. 2 aeroplanes up before
6 am. A mine exploded. Some
amount of rifle fire in vicinity
of explosion. Heard cuckoo for 1st time -
