Accommodation irritating, heads and feet were alternating;
On either side of me reclined two elongated Jocks,
An odour most specific, permeation most terrific,
All just because those lengthy lads possessed no change of socks.
Our train it never speeded, but quite leisurely proceeded
In glorious weather northward, through Italy's fair clime,
We had culinary adventures, detrimental to our dentures
But usualy those same dentures got no chance of overtime.
As Italy receeded through France we slowly speeded,
Until at last we arrived one night in Cherborg harbour grand,
Where transport was awaiting, soon a record was creating,
And landed us all safely back again in England.
In the depot we assembled, where in former years we trembled,
We laughed at threats of punishment, and the threatners too,
Sergeant Majors were quite furious, as in language quite sulphurious
We told them Oh so vulgarly what they so and so well could do.
At length demobilization became a realization,
And I started on my homeward way by steamship and by train
And after years of great privation, I achieved my liberation
And found myself a freeman once again in Borrisokane.
My Panegeric is ended, my vocabulary being expended,
Its intended as a warning to every youthful guy.
But they'l treat me with derision and when called to make decision
Will proceed with youthful ignorance, and do just the same as I.
