comfortable I have been unable to do much in the garden

during the last fortnight owing to the wet + things are

just beginning to Change We have sampled some of our

potatoes this week which are of first Rate Quality + a

good Crop apparently although we have only pulled two

or three  Roots , Beet root has done very well also the

Beans but peas have not done as well as in previous

years I have pulled down the old privet edge  hedge 

between the lawn + Rose Garden + also cut down

the privets on Stavely Rd Wall Side these I intend

making into pillars some thing like the others.

+ I consider the garden is generally improved by

these alterations. I intend building a low wall at

the bottom of the garden about 2.6 high to hold up the

soil + Removing the Top Portion of potato beds to the

bottom to make these more level beds This will give

us a drop of about 3.0 where these join the lawn which

I propose to Bank up like a  rockery  providing I have

time. I was sorry to hear you had to go into hospital

+ hope you have quite recovered  + it has left no ill effects

it will probably have been die to Climatic Change + the

water supply which you will doubtless get acclimatised

to before long We have spent some time following the

lines of your travel on a small scale Map but

did not locate Ardenelot on Montagne but have come

to the conclusion you are not very far from the swiss

Border + Lake Geneva of course 50 miles on the Map of

Europe does not show up very large. I have told Alice

to get a Larger Scale Map but she has not done it to

date.
