Printed on the left side of the postcard:
The Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)
is the oldest Highland regiment in the British
Army, the name being derived from the sombre
tones of the tartan and its old Highland name of
Watch or Guard, being first used to keep watch
in the Highlands. With all Scottish regiments
it bears the St. Andrew's Cross as part of its
crest. The Sphinx badge was won in Egypt
in 1801.
