Récit de Pierre PERRIN sur son grand-père Claude Marie PEPIN, natif de Sainte-Croix (Saône-et-Loire). Âgé de 20 ans en 1914, Claude PEPIN est incorporé au 44ème régiment d’infanterie le 19 décembre 1914. Simple soldat, Claude PEPIN est fait prisonnier à Verdun le 26 février 1916 puis est transféré en Allemagne, semble-t-il en Westphalie au camp de Friedrichsfeld (mars-avril 1916), au camp de Münster et à Horstermark (novembre 1916-février 1917). Rapatrié en France le 20 décembre 1918, il est démobilisé le 9 septembre 1919. Lors de sa captivité, Claude PEPIN a tenu un cahier intitulé « Souvenir de captivité » qu’il a pu rapporter avec lui. Ce cahier comporte principalement des textes de chansons chantées au 44ème régiment d’infanterie et des compositions originales de prisonniers de guerre et, en de rares endroits, des annotations sur les conditions de vie des prisonniers de guerre.

Story of Pierre PERRIN about his grandfather Claude Marie PEPIN, native of Sainte-Croix (Saône-et-Loire). Claude PEPIN, who was 20 years old in 1914, was incorporated into the 44th Infantry Regiment on December 19, 1914. Claude PEPIN, a simple soldier, was taken prisoner in Verdun on February 26, 1916, then transferred to Germany, apparently in Westphalia. Friedrichsfeld camp (March-April 1916), Münster camp and Horstermark (November 1916-February 1917). Repatriated to France on December 20, 1918, he was demobilized on September 9, 1919. During his captivity, Claude PEPIN held a notebook entitled "Remembrance of Captivity" that he was able to bring back with him. This notebook contains mainly texts of songs sung at the 44th Infantry Regiment and original compositions of prisoners of war and, in rare places, annotations on the living conditions of prisoners of war.
