Your mother said if I did not get a new hat
she would not take me on to the Spa, because
the blue one had faded so. So I am having
it covered with violet velvet. I tried on a
green velour and we asked the price - I nearly
dropped. £2. The last velour I got was three
years ago and was 21/- and wore splendidly
It is the war that has made them so dear.
Your mother was giving the milliner a dreadful
character of me. I said I should like a
velvet band putting round my black hat
and also a yellow buckle I had seen in
the window. I wanted to know how much
the buckle would be - it was 2/6. - So we
roared because Mrs Green + Mrs B both turned
and said - 'Will it run to that Muriel.' Then
your mother said to the milliner 'You see
my daughter-in-law is Scotch. and is
going to keep me in order with regard to
spending money."
We went back for Kitty and all went
into the town. I bought a pair of socks for
Joy's baby; and a little robe. Then Kitty + I
went to Moseley's for our glasses of milk
