caused.  Turkish artillery returned the fire on ships.

Dec 6th  At about 4am we spotted a fire at K--- Kali so we gave them a few 12 pounds the fire immediately disappeared Left patrol at 6am  and arrived at Moudros [Limnos] 11:45am.  Submarines reported off Gaba Tepe and off --?--  trying to make Dardenelles.

Dec 7th  --?-- during stand off. 

Dec 9th  Sailed at 8am called alongside Aragon for Military officers then to Lord Nelson for Chief of Staff.  Left Moudros [Limnos] at 9am arrived Kepholo 11:30am. discharged officers to Swiftsure then proceeded to Paliol arriving 1:30pm.  At 4pm Turkish forts opened fire on us from Jewi Sheka we returned the fire after about 20 minutes the firing ceased we then resumed patrol for the night. 

Dec 10th   At 11:30am Baeland and 3rd squadron bombarded Gabe Tepe  causing serious damage finished bombardment at 1:30pm.  Turkish Battery from behind Yemi Shake opened fire with 11 inch and smaller guns. but most of these rounds hit the beach at Saddul Bake. We returned the fire the French gave us a hand from  Suddul Bake firing ceased at 4pm.  At 5pm we proceeded to Heplale embarked General Davis and took him to Cape Hellos arrived there at 6pm. Landed General Davis then took up night patrol. 

Dec 11th  At 12:15am Turkish batteries opened fire from Jewi Shake and other batteries up straits.  A light was seen in Kume Kale so we pushed it over with 12 pounder.  After firing was finished we proceeded up Dardenelles to draw fire and well we knew it  but turned just above Seddul Beki. No hits obtained by Turks. 

Dec 12th   Left patrol at 7am collected despatches at Suvla then left for Limnos arriving at noon.  Captain D. inspected ship. 

Dec 13th   Proceeded at 7am for patrol arriving 10:15am. Turkish batteries opened fire at 10:30am and continued bombarding Suddul Bake and patrol all day.  At 5pm we were detailed to support right flank of French Army at Horts Bay Turkish forts giving us a warm reception but no damage was done. 

Dec 14th   At 6am we went aground in Morts Bay but managed to get afloat again shortly afterwards. Turks saw our trouble and gave us a few to get on with.  Damage  done a piece of one of the blades of the starboard propeller broken off, we continued to patrol during the day between Kem Kale and Suddul Bake. 

[   Suspect Kum Kale = Kumkale and Suddul Bake = Sedd el Bahr.  These are at the western entry into the Dardenelles   ]

Turkish batteries opened fire at 10:30am and continued bombarding Suddul Bake and patrol all day.At 5pm we were detailed to support right flank of French Army at Horts Bay Turkish forts giving us a warm reception but no damage was done.

    caused.  Turkish artillery returned the fire on ships.

    Dec 6th  At about 4am we spotted a fire at K--- Kali so we gave them a few 12 pounds the fire immediately disappeared Left patrol at 6am  and arrived at Limnos 11:45am.  Submarines reported off Gaba Tepe and off --?--  trying to make Dardenelles.

    Dec 7th  --?-- during stand off. 

    Dec 9th  Sailed at 8am called alongside Aragon for Military officers then to Lord Nelson for Chief of Staff.  Left Linmos at 9am arrived Kepholo 11:30am. discharged officers to Swiftsure then proceeded to Paliol arriving 1:30pm.  At 4pm Turkish forts opened fire on us from Jewi Sheka we returned the fire after about 20 minutes the firing ceased we then resumed patrol for the night. 

    Dec 10th   At 11:30am Baeland and 3rd squadron bombarded Gabe Tepe  causing serious damage finished bombardment at 1:30pm.  Turkish Battery from behind Yemi Shake opened fire with 11 inch and smaller guns. but most of these rounds hit the beach at Saddul Bake. We returned the fire the French gave us a hand from  Suddul Bake firing ceased at 4pm.  At 5pm we proceeded to Heplale embarked General Davis and took him to Cape Hellos arrived there at 6pm. Landed General Davis then took up night patrol.
