Dear Miss ...
It has been brought to my notice in a
round about fashion that you are desirous
of knowing the circumstances under which
Lt MacLachlan won his M.C. and as I am
sure he would not do himself justice in any
account he would give I am taking the matter
out of his hands altogether - when volunteers
were called for to spend four days in the front
line at Passchendaele he at once submitted his
name and was chosen for the purpose- he stuck
to his post during that period under heavy
fire and conditions most foul and sent
back valuable information to artillery. H.Q.
for all of which he was highly commended
We are very proud of him
Yours truly
