Left Victoria Hospital for Luxor. Entrained 2,15 p.m. arrived Luxor 8.30
21st Dec.
Country en-route is magnificent. There are 6 officers and 250 men- we
were looked after well, every comfort- Sisters were delicious. On arrival
motor ambulance took us to hotel, most luxurious place (Luxor Hotel). About
60 officers and several officers wives and some civilian ladies and
gentlemen are staying at hotel. Food not over grand. Went to Karnak after
dinner in Shari with Mills (Capt. 6th R.W.F.) and Soliman our Dragoman.
Nice scene by moonlight , enjoyed it much- introduced to Roberts RAMC a
decent fellow who found out I sketched the same as himself. Made
arrangements to buy materials and accompany him on his journeys. Went to
Winter Palace- magnificent place- got pyjamas- very hot muggy weather.
22nd Dec.
Slept rather uneasily . Selected some watercolor materials and commenced
sketch of Libyan Hills.
23rd Dec.
Had a few hours at sketch in the morning- pottered about during afternoon
at the market place. Funny show, hundreds of natives all different tribes-
dirty lot- still I was much impressed by the scenes.
24th Dec.
Finished sketch of Libyan hills- not pleased with same much too heavy for
my liking. Have wrong colours but could get no more. Went to concert.
25th Dec.
Went round Luxor Temple wonderful place- went to sports (Gymkana) in
afternoon enjoyed it much. Dinner at 7.30 p.m. with Mr and Mrs Mckie
(Egyptologist) Mr and Mrs Barton, Captain and Mrs Roberts (RAMC) , Mrs
Davies wife of Captain Davies, Major Borthwick. Lt. Reaictle and Captain
Mills. Had good dinner but thought I should enjoy it at home much better
and wished I was there.
26th Dec. Sunday

Roberts and Mills. Saw tombs of Ramses 6th. Amenophis 2nd and Seti 1st
