relieved and during the whole of that time Pte Carroll
displayed most wonderful courage and fearlessness. Each
night he went out wiring in front of the new position,
and it was in a great measure due to his efforts
that the work was brought to a successful conclusion
On two occasions he went out to look for wounded
and brought them back in safety to our lines.
His magnificent example of gallantry and devotion to duty
throughout a very trying period inspired all ranks in his
battalion.
