  went out wiring in front of the new position, and it was in a 

  great measure due to his efforts that the work was brought to a 

  successful conclusion. On two occasions he went out to look for wounded and brought them back in safety to our line. 

          His significant example of gallantry and devotion to duty throughout a very trying period inspired all ranks in his battalion.
