There are a many Scots troops in

Cambrai, (Gordon Highlanders, I think)

and they celebrated Hogmanay in the

good old Scottish style. Up our way,

however, things were fine and quiet,

most of the lads being English, so we

brought in the New Year quietly.

Today (New Year's Day) we all got a

holiday, of course, and it turned out a

fine day. You will be pleased to know

that I spent it by finding my way

out to Flesquieres and visiting Angus's

resting-place. I was successful in my

mission. I set off immediately after

breakfast time, with a good idea of

which direction my course should be. The

road took me over a break, bare country

side, with widely scattered villages, all

in tumble-down ruins as a result of

the heavy fighting in this region. At

some parts I had to cross "No-Man's Land"
