where we go to get our grub. We just run
across the garden with our mess tins
and some fine meals await us. The five
of us then return to "our" house and
sit round the "round table". My four
companions are English chaps who came
up from the Base with me, and we get
out grand together.
Our work so far has been the repairing
of the damage done by the war to Cambrai
College, which is one of the many fine
buildings here. It was used as an
Hospital by the Germans for about three
years. It is now occupied by the
British, and the Anglesey R.E. are engaged
putting it in order. My job has been
the mending of stoves, and we are getting
on fine. We work from 7:14 a.m. till 4,
taking a light lunch from 12 to 1, and
getting a big dinner on our return at
night. After that out time is our own.
