and after a few obstacles in the
shape of stones, being in the land
it was got ready. But in the
opinion of many it was only half
done. Anyhow the a/c for ploughing
was not half, 8 Above: £(pounds) - 17 Above: s(shillings) - 4 Above: d.(pence) , it was
considered far to [sic] much. Shewing
to alotment holders and workers,
generally, that the Council did
not make any great effort in
the encouragement of land cultivation,
more so, when we compare
other councils with the
Clayton Council, in this time of
national stress and peril.
