and devotion to duty wgile observing during

the fighting at Passchendaele, carrying

out observations for four consecutive nights

and days under very heavy shell fire and

the most trying conditions." Lieut. MacLachlan

is an Irishman by birth and upbringing.

For about three years he was

employed by Grant, Smith & MacDonell

as one of their engineers. He played Rugby

for J. B. A. A.

    LIEUT. J. B. MacLACHLAN


    Formerly an officer of the 5th Regiment,

    Victoria, now of the 1st Canadian Heavy

    Battery, France, who has been awarded the

    Military Cross "for exceptionally fine work

    and devotion to duty wgile observing during

    the fighting at Passchendaele, carrying

    out observations for four consecutive nights

    and days under very heavy shell fire and

    the most trying conditions." Lieut. MacLachlan

    is an Irishman by birth and upbringing.

    For about three years he was

    employed by Grant, Smith & MacDonell

    as one of their engineers. He played Rugby

    for J. B. A. A.

    The decoration awarded by the King for distinguished

    and meritorious serivces, awarded

    on recommendation of Secretary of State for

    War. One hundred decorations were conferred

    on New Year's Day last, and 254 in recent

    despatch of Gen. Sir John French


    INVESTITURE BY THE KING.


    THE King conferred the following decorations on members

    of the Canadian Force (all belonging to the Infantry unless otherwise

    stated) at Buckingham Palace on Saturday:
