28th Sept.
Lovely day. Issued new clothing (140 suits) etc. otherwise had a nice easy
day. Begged 2 loaves of bread from Corporal Porter and S.M. Foster of the
A.S.C. (Army Service Corps). Both excellent fellows.
29th Sept
Sent books and letter to Mrs B.E.P. (C.O. widow). Also card to Lizzie.
Quiet day.
30th Sept.
Sent claim to Records for August and Sept. Also letter to Flint Bank. A man
of Herefords killed and 2117 Pte. Roberts of 'D' Coy. of our Battalion
seriously wounded through blasting operations. 20 yards from my dugout.
Sorry for the poor fellows.
1st Oct.
Went for a walk to trenches on Karakol Dagh- Park Lane, Oxford Street,
Charing Cross etc. (fine country) to Jefferson's post, plenty of firing
going on there. Very strong position. Turks first line only 300 yards away.
Inoculated against Cholera. Quiet day. Turks shelled our last camp ground.
2nd Oct.
Quiet day. Enemy shelling spot near A.S.C. depot heavily, killed and
wounded a few including natives and mules. Found dead mule at my ration
dump when I went for grub. Mules for supplies gave us a lively time-
kicked all over the shop etc.
3rd Oct. Sunday.
Father Hook from 'C' Beach to 2nd W.F. (Welsh Fusiliers) ambulance today.
Glad he is back to us. Went for walk with C.O. to Park Lane etc. (Reserve
trenches Karakol Dagh). Guns very lively about 9.45 p.m.
4th Oct.
8.45 a.m. Guns very lively. I hear that 7 officers are at Alexandria
including King (Lt.) who was not on the peninsular 24 hours and that he is
off home on 6 months leave. Sent letter to Lizzie. Turkish attack 8.45 a.m.
to 9 a.m. Poor show.
5th Oct.
17 Men rejoined from Imbros etc. at 3 a.m. Very quiet day. Plenty of
aircraft around.
