I have not heard of a smith who passed the list going anywhere else
but Grove Park + from what I see down here I think it all a farce
for a Class A man but do not know
allthe full facts because Ihave not yet been through my test nor seen the officer yet
from what I make out when you have had your test you go before the officer
+ he gives you a form to sign which says on
I thinkI have had a fairtest which I think is here but the judging of it is not because the
sargeant tells you it is all right + the Lieut tells you you have
failed. The Test consists of some of the following starting
handle hook for a Lorry Lamp Bracket. Brake Rod something
like that Charlie made for that Gate + Welding Still
There are about 40 to 50 Smiths down here of one sort and
another. I should not be at all surprised if all the Class A
men are not transferred to the Infantry If not me I shall
consider my self Lucky as nearly all the Chaps down here
are grade 2 who are Stationed here. but one never knows your
luck but am waiting for the best.
When I have been through my test I will let you know more
about down here as it is no good telling about things you
do not know if they are right
The Food down here is good but not enough . I could eat
3 Mens Rations for one meal. It is expensive for a solder
down here on 1 of a week because you have to go into the
canteen to get something to eat which all cost money
I have still about L 2/15/0 Left
You cannot settle down at this place because we
might be moved any minute we have to take our full
kit down to the Barracks where the workshops are evey
day which seems to show the above is correct
I will now close hoping it finds you + all in the best
of health but nor hungry as I am down here If I do not
spend any thing but I am looking well after that
Yours affectionately
Edgar
PS Excuse the writing + the few mistakes
as it is the Longest letter I have ever written
