       Capt. W.F.Cochrane.

Capt. William Francis Cochrane. King's Own Scottish 

Borderers, who has fallen in action, was the managing director

of A.N. Cochrane and Brothers Limited, tweed manufacturers,

....... and an ex-president of the South of Scotland

Chamber of Commerce. A good all-round sportsman, he was 

a ....... member of the Gala F.C. fifteen, and a skilful lawn

...... player, while he was on occasion a prize winner in 

the.... distance handicaps of the Scottish Border A.A.A. of

which he was in 1898 one of the founders.  He was an

officer in the local Volunteer and Territorial Forces for many

years and offered himself for active service on the outbreak

of war.

Lieut. Robert Ballantine Anderson. King's Own Scottish

Borderers, who has been killed in action, aged twenty-seven,

was the third of five sons of Mr R.B. Anderson, of Glenburn

Hill, Jedburgh, all of whom were in active service. Lieut. 

Anderson, who was by profession a writer to the signet, was

educated at Edinburgh Academy and Edinburgh University,

and after leaving the former proved himself an exceptionally

useful outside in the Edinburgh Academical's fifteen. Half

back in 1909-10 and 1910-11, he played at back and wing

three quarter alternately in 1911-12, and closed his football

career in the following season, when he went back, wing, three-

quarter, or half back as was required.

BURGH University. He finished his curriculum in

1915, and intended to proceed to the mission field.

mission in February 1917.

Lt.-Col. G.B.F. SMYTH, D.S.O. (wounded) who

was born in 1885, entered the Royal Engineers in

1905, becoming Captain in 1914, and Major in June

1916. He was previously wounded, and received the

D.S.O. in 1914 for services at the front.

Major W.T. FORREST, K.O.S.B., who was

previously reported killed, is now reported wounded

and missing. Major Forrest is the noted Rugby

footballer. In civilian life he was a partner with

his father in the firm of Messrs Forrest & Sons,

gunsmiths and fishing tackle manufacturers,

Square, KELSO.

Mr. ROBERT ANDREW GIBB- Killed, Sec Lt Gibb

was the youngest son of Mr John Gibb, 49 West

Nicolson Street, Edinburgh, and was 25 years of age.

He served in Gallipoli as staff sergeant-major in the 

Army Service Corps. Obtaining a commission in 1915

he went to the front in December last. He was

educated at James Gillespie's School, and was a

journalist, with experience in Ayr. Dumfries. Newton-

Stewart, and latterly in London.

Mr J.S. FORSYTH (killed) was the youngest [....]

of Mr John Forsyth, 31 Stanley Street, Aberdeen. 

He was in Edinburgh when the war broke out and

being a Territorial was called up. He had previously

been wounded in action. and had only been back to

the front for about a fortnight when he was killed.

Mr C.C. WATT:- Killed. Second Lieutenant. Charles

Cecil Watt, K.O.S.B., killed in action on May 8. was

the older son of the Rev. Charles J. Watt. minister

of Polwarth. At the outbreak of the war he was

studying at Edinburgh University, where he was a

member of the O.T.C., and the best rifle shot of his

year. He was 22 years of age.

Mrs Thomas Moore, 13 Leamington Terrace,

Edinburgh. and grandson of the late Major

Moore, Douglas. Lanarkshire, He was educated

at Lanark Grammar School. and prior to the 

outbreak of war was employed by the Century

Insurance Company, Edinburgh.
