Robert Ballantine Anderson, killed 2nd Battle of Gaza
Robert was in the Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was born in 1890 and died in 1917, aged 27. He was the third of five sons, of Robert Ballantine Anderson and Agnes Anderson of Glenburn Hall, Jedburgh. All five sons were in active service. Robert served in Gallipoli and Gaza; he was killed by the Turks at Outpost Hill, Gaza, South Palestine, and buried in Gaza War Cemetery. He started as a private in the 1st Lovat Scouts, and died as a lieutenant in the KOSB.

The first digitized document is a summary of his background and tells the story of the 2nd Battle of Gaza, a detailed account of the attack on Outpost Hill 19 April 1917, where he was 2nd lieutenant in "D" company: of how only 33 men survived of the original garrison of 400.
