  rather have Mrs Arringh than her

  daughters. She has more common-sense,

  + as for her extreme bitterness, - I have

  an idea that a good deal is caused

  by her being a disappointed woman, - 

  I mean as regards her whole life. Did

  you know that she ran away to marry

  Mr A.? Havell  will get a "long

  drop" in the future - perhaps. It

  would be funny, however, if he had to

  pay some of mine! I must say, I am

  surprised at Dick being so extremely

  mean re money. I mean, I should

  have thought he would have had

  more respect for himself (at any rate)

  than to leave his wife short like that.

  As for the confidence - I know I can

  trust my woman, anyway, + that's good
