Dear Stanley,
We had another scare
last night. We intercepted a message
saying that heavy firing could be heard
10 miles S.E of Spurn Head. We nearly
all heard it. Lieut. Scott made us
stand to our arms + had us all out on
the Cliffs. It occurred at 1-30 this morning.
We have to sleep when we can. All
our work is done at night + we idle
about during the day. It is glorious here
this morning. I have had my morning
dip (We nearly all have one at some
time during the day.) Tell mother I am
enjoying myself fine. It is a topping
little place is the coastguard station we
are billeted at Aldbrough Temperance
Hotel + we get jolly good grub.
Sergeant Thomas is just telling the men to
file in to midday stables. Lieut Scott
has gone to Hornsea to a court martial
of a chap who was found asleep at
his post the other night, so I am using
some of his notepaper. I had a topping
