met your mother and told such a poverty stricken

tale of how they had had to do without eggs

as Mr Ascongh had not been able to sell wool

on account of the Government's action. Yet they

were all able to come over to Scarboro for the

day and pay 30/- for an ordinary week-day

hat. Some people do have a lot of

trouble with themselves don't they mine.

Janet swam the length of the pool this

morning so she told me. Oh that reminds me

I met Doris and Gladys Whitfield this morning

Gladys kissed me - Great Scott! They can have

no shame and Doris shook hands and

was as friendly as could be. Her arms

were full of flowers and she had piles of

bags with fruit in. I wonder from whom

they are borrowing now. You know I like

the girl but really she must have an

enormous amount of cheek. She is engaged

to Havell and has an exceedingly nice

ring with diamonds. I did not introduce

them to your mother because it is no good

complicating matters any further. I should

think Havell will get an eye-opener after
