Finished 4 pm firing. Left section pulled
out in heavy dunder storm. Motor
lorries to take guns across field. Made
very little progress, guns in ditches &
motors alec . Guns left on field and
waited till 5 am for caterpillars.
Reached new position, old 3rd line trench
6 am. 9th inst Working right through
on bringing stores from position
Bed: 3 pm till 5 pm. Fired 2 rounds
Had look at captured ground, and
Brickstacks, which only turned out as
it appeared from Kemmel C.P. No
signs of German trenches, ground one
mass of shell holes. Mine crater 80
feet deep, Ghastly sights, dead German
parts here and there, bodies black and
twisted all shapes, hundreds must
have been burned alive. "Colour rotten
Dug-out electric lights and Dynamo
Secured. Tin Hat and Field Glasses
also rifle. Mess in support trenches
slept in small dug-out. Coulman
Elman and I Biscuits for the
first time.
