By his prompt action he succeeded in giving every man along the
whole line timely warning of the danger.
His conduct throughout the night was marked by the same
heroic self-sacrifice and complete indifference to his own safety.
But unfortunately he did not live to receive the honour which his
bravery had earned. For early on the morning of the 29th of
November this very brave and admirable soldier was killed by a shell.
